Treimanis, Zane

After working with wood as a sculptor for over 50 years, I am now learning watercolor and Sumi-E painting. Sumi-e is a special black ink made from burnt pine trees. It is diluted with water for subtle effects with special brushes. For me it is an enjoyable and spontaneous way of painting that gives freedom of expression. It is interesting as an artist to explore various mediums.

I am referencing nature  for my subjects and favoring trees, birds, insects, flowers and water. Sumi-e   is  a very meditative process . I prefer working from photos that I have taken.  I also engage in photography. Our earth has endless  gifts to observe and share.
